An ideal pillow stuffing, kapok fiber is softer and lighter than down and feels like a mix between loose silk and cotton stuffing.
Kapok is sustainably harvested from seed pods that are dropped from the Ceiba tree. It's an eco-friendly alternative to poly fill perfect to use in pillows, meditation cushions and dolls. It packs tightly for a firm fill or can remain loosely packed for a soft and squishy feeling item.
Fun fact: Before the advent of more advanced materials kapok was used for life preservers, duvets and sleeping bags!
As the fiber is very light and designed to disperse seeds in the wind, we recommend the use of a dust mask while handling kapok.
There may be particles of Ceiba husk as well as some remaining seeds in the kapok you receive, they are a naturally expected aspect of this raw and unprocessed stuffing material. This material is flammable. Some hikers carry it for starting campfires in wilderness areas.
